Arab Parliament sends message to Security Council on Ethiopian Dam

The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Adel Bin Abdel Rahman , on Monday, sent urgent message to the President of the UN Security Council, Nicolas de Rivière before the Council’s  session scheduled for next Thursday, at the request of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Republic of Sudan to review the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam crisis.

Bin Abdel Rahman, on his message, called on the UN Security Council to shoulder its responsibilities towards maintaining international peace and security and to take abiding position in the session leading to reaching fair and abiding agreement concerning the rules of filling and operation of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

“Our letter to you does not stem only from considerations imposed by the national and moral responsibility of the Arab Parliament regarding solidarity with two of its member- states and their support in preserving their legal and historical rights in the waters of the Nile, but also on the rules International law, charters and agreements governing international rivers. ” He stressed.

The Arab Parliament official has confirmed that Sudan and Egypt had participated in negotiation’s rounds that lasted for ten years, with good intentions, during which they showed responsible and balanced stances that reflect their keenness to reach an agreement guaranteeing the interests of all the concerned parties, but the, the obstinate positions of the State of Ethiopia prevented reaching this agreement.
