Al-Burhan Receives Message from UN Secretary General

Khartoum, Feb. 5 (SUNA) – The President of the Sovereign Council, Lt. Gen. Abdul-Fattah Al-Burhan, Wednesday received a message from the UN Secretary General, Antonio Gutteres, in which he appreciated the stances of Sudan in supporting the initiative related to peace keeping that was launched by the United Nations in 2018.

In his message, the UN Secretary General of the United Nations stated that the initiative has made outstanding progress in the areas of peacekeeping since its inception, adding that 152 countries and organizations have ratified the initiative’s declaration on common obligations and goals.

He said that commitment to the initiative has made a clear improvement and tangible progress in the areas covered by the initiative, especially in the fields of women empowerment, political solutions, peace and security agenda, progress in the sustainable peace process, strengthening partnership with member states and the standards, good behavior and discipline.

The UN Secretary General indicated that the issue of sustainable peace remains a central issue with the partners to demonstrate the ability to support political processes, a matter which was evident in the success of the initiative by commitment to signing peace in Central Africa through partnership with the African Union and the peace-keeping forces in South Sudan State, in addition to their work in the areas of development and evacuation of civilians from the dispute areas.
