Al-Burhan receives Head of UNITAMS

President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council Gen. Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan has commended the role being assumed by the United Nations for supporting the transitional government and its efforts for political transition and realization of comprehensive peace and stability in the country.

This came when Al-Burhan received at his office in the Republican Palace today the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sudan and Head of United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), Mr. Volker Perthes.

The meeting discussed a number of current developments at the national and international levels and process of coordination of stances between the transitional government and the UN mission on issues of mutual interests.

Mr. Perthes said in a press statement the meeting discussed a number of issues that require cooperation and coordination between the mission and the transitional government, especially the peace process with Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North- Abdelaziz Al-Hilu and the role of UN in mobilizing international support to Sudan for realization of comprehensive peace.

He added that the meeting reviewed in details the security arrangements dossier of Juba agreement on peace in Sudan and the international role in supporting the mechanisms of implementation of the agreement.
